Show Descriptions

The Spring Show - Cheaper by the Dozen

Picture
Suppose you're an attractive high school girl and you're not only a member of a large and unique family but your father is, in fact, one of the great pioneers of industrial efficiency. Then suppose he decides, for no apparent reason, to apply his unorthodox methods to you and to the rest of your big family. The results are terribly embarrassing, funny and—it must be admitted—extremely effective! To Anne, however, the chief effect seems to be that of making them seem ridiculous to everyone else at school—especially to the boys! Dad pushes ahead with better organization for his large and delightful family. He puts up a chart for the young people to initial after completing each household task, uses a rung as an imaginary bathtub to demonstrate how to take a really efficient bath and appoints a utilities officer to levy fines on wasters of electricity. While the situations are often uproarious, there's a serious reason. Dad has a heart condition which he's keeping secret. The children don't understand them. Anne, the oldest, rebels. Both Dad and she are miserable at the lack of understanding between them. Then in a deft and moving scene, Dad becomes aware of how much Anne has grown up.

The Summer Show - Alice @ Wonderland

Picture
What would happen if a 21st century Alice collided with Lewis Carroll’s legendary Wonderland?  This modern retelling of the classic children’s story has all of the characters you know and love, including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts.  The story is laid out in traditional style, except that Alice is distinctly contemporary, complete with cell phone in hand.  Full of references to text messaging and social media, the play imagines a present-day Alice encountering the Wonderland so many of us treasure.  A sharply told,
crisply paced ride, this quality adaptation has been praised for its humor, modern style and appeal to both children and adults.

Fall Show - The Crazy Quilt Club

Picture
Veronica Blather is a sweet little old lady who spends most of her time knitting and solving murders, most of which occur whenever she shows up. Understandably she has a problem finding a place to live. When her niece invites her to stay at a retirement home for old knitters, it seems ideal - until one of its members dies from drinking poisoned punch. Who did it? Was it Matilda, the president of the Crazy Quilt Club, or Lydia, who likes to die on Tuesdays? Could it be Clara, who's a compulsive liar, or the wisecracking Sarafina who doesn't trust anybody and carries a rifle just to be sure? Clues drop as fast as corpses and dialogue races along at breakneck speed to keeps the audience in stitches till the last minute.

The Winter show - Thirst

Picture
Set in the small town of Legion, OK, Thirst examines the frailty of men and women within the devastating context of both the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s. The town has withered into dust after the arrival and departure of Jack Herald. The play asks such questions as “Did this rainmaker bring hope or destruction to this town?” “Who is he?” “Can this town be saved or will it be blown off the map?”

These are some of the questions that Aaron Cable, a drought relief worker, must answer with regard to helping those in Legion, the surrounding area, the nation at large, and ultimately himself.
